Titusville, FL (May 17, 2010 - Monday)
The trip began with keeping us home due to rain and it kept us in Titusville longer due to rain!We were supposed to be heading home today but the rain kicked in and again we thought that safety first should kick in and stayed for an extra night. We drove through the rain yesterday on the way home from Rotonda and did not want to drive the RV through it! And the local Orlando Fox channel did advise that the rainy season has kicked in! DUH!

Manatee Hammock, Titusville, FL (May 16, 2010 - Sunday)
The Shuttle Atlantis launched on Friday, May 14th at 2:20pm without a hitch. It was a hazy day but cleared up enough for another absolutely gorgeous launch.
The office told us when we checked in that they were at 100% capacity for campers for the launch and that was certainly true! Cass and I brought our chairs down to the river early because of the amount of people! We had our chairs, tripods and a cooler for ice and water. There was surprisingly alot of "first timers" there to watch the launch. Cass and I felt like old pros!
Cass did another fantastic job videoing the launch. We had remembered to bring our scanner and she held the scanner to the side of the video camera, getting the countdown during the taping!
We've already made reservations for the September 16th launch.

Manatee Hammock, Titusville, FL (May 13, 2010 - Thursday)
We left Mayport at around 11:00am. Cass drove us to 95 and then I drove. I'm getting more comfortable driving in more "trafficky" situations which is critical for when we head out to South Dakota.
When we left Mayport, it was a warm and sunny day but since we were right on the water, there was always a gorgeous breeze. When we arrived in Titusville, Manatee Hammock is very wooded so any breeze from the Indian River is lost by the time it hits all the trees! Suffice it to say, it is very hot! And it's only May... someone remind me why people live in Florida? LOL
Today, we went for a ride to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge where we saw many cool birds and even got to see manatees! It was a gorgeous place and we drove around for a couple of hours.

Our Adventures in Mayport
We really relaxed while we were at Pelican Roost. With Cass just finishing up tax season, she really wanted to just relax... and she did just that!! We sat outside most evenings, watched the boats go by and drank a beer or 2!!
On Monday, May 10th we took the St. Johns River Ferry across to Ft. George, Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. The ferry was really fun!! It was a quick trip, about 5minutes across the St. Johns river. Cass sat in the car with the dogs and I stood out front and took still pictures on the ride over and took video on the ride back! We drove around.
We got as close as we could to see the Amelia Island Lighthouse without getting arrested! To get to the lighthouse, we had to drive through a residential neighborhood, keeping an eye on the lighthouse. We found it up a road with a locked gate, between 2 homes with barking dogs. I snapped a quick couple of pictures and we high-tailed it out of there!!
We had wonderful neighbors while we were there, Jeanie and Anthony! They had 2 dogs, females... Cocoa was a chocolate lab and Tessa was a Shih-Tzu! And they also tapped into Cass' knowledge of computers, cell phones and digital cameras... and repaid her (and ME!) with a yummy dinner at Carraba's!

Pelican Roost RV Park - Mayport, Florida (May 7, 2010 - Friday)
We left Calabash on Wednesday, May 5th. Cass started out driving but a little bit into it, I told her that it was time that I start driving. I am a horrible co-pilot! So I drove for the first time with the MKX in tow on Rt. 95 South for about 3 hours! Cass did the driving to the KOA we stayed at in Richmond Hills, GA which is just south of Savannah. It has come to be our stop coming and going to Florida! It is convenient... about 1/2 mile off Rt. 95, has Wi-Fi, full hook ups and pull through sites!
One of the reasons we want to pre-make food, is for the days that we are travelling. This will allow us to not have to worry about making dinner after driving all day. Well so far, add pre-made calzones to that list! Cass cooked them in the convection oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees and they were delicious!
We left the KOA Thursday morning a little later than we had planned but we still arrived at Pelican Roost at about noon, checked in and had everything set up by 1:00pm! We are getting very good at setting up our rig and tending to our dogs in record time!! We each have our jobs and it is getting pretty routine.
I don't think we were here for more than a few minutes when the boat traffic picked up! Now, there is always small personal boats going up and down the St. John's River but it is the BIG boats that make you say "WOW!" We had a cargo ship come in and the cruise ship Carnival Fascination head out.
This morning, we have had the USS Simpson set out to sea and a Coast Guard vessel head out!

Prepping and Bad Weather
There is some big rain heading our way so common sense dictates that we wait until Wednesday to head south.
We're getting ready to head to Florida for another shuttle launch. We're planning on spending a week at NAS Mayport watching the boats and ships coming up the St. John's River to Jacksonville! Then we are off to Titusville to see another shuttle launch set for May 14th. There are only 3 more shuttle launches and we are really going to try and see them all!
We are trying to squeeze a visit with some friends in Rotonda!

This is also a test trip for us making premaking food and freezing it. This trip, we made calzones and froze them and cannot wait to try them out!
