On the way home (January 3, 2010 - Sunday)

We are on Rt 95 North, currently driving through Jacksonville, FL heading home to Calabash. The temperatures were supposed to stay right around 50 degrees during the day and in the lower 30s at night. The RV has a great heating system... it stays toasty warm so that wasn't the issue. But what was happening with the outside being so cold and the inside being warm and the ocean air, the RV was "sweating" everywhere. All the windows each morning weren't just fogged over but soaking wet. And what was really starting to concern us was all the cabinets that are in the slide outs were gathering condensation in the outer walls and starting to drip down the walls!!

Here is the ice that formed where we left the water on at the spigot... Cass and I talked about it this morning when we woke up and realized that it was time to go home! We left North Beach Resort at 11:00am. They reimbursed us for the remaining three nights we had paid for!!

I thought this guy had the best catch phrase for his business... made me laugh and made Cass drive fast enough that we could catch up so I could take a picture!

St. Augustine (January 2, 2010 - Saturday)

We went to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum. Unfortunately for me it was a fire escape type of stairs and I could not go up. My fear of heights totally kicked in and I just couldn't make it up. If I couldn't climb the Eiffel Tower while in Paris ... there was NO way I would make it up this!
Cass did make it to the top... all 219 steps to take some great panoramic photos!!

St. Augustine (January 1, 2010 - Friday)

We arrived at NAS Mayport on Tuesday, December 29th and absolutely loved the area where Pelican Roost RV Park is located. It is right on the mouth of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean. We saw so many boats, so many HUGE boats going up and down this river.

We had a beautiful view of the water and the Navy's ships!! This gentleman stopped by and mentioned that he too towed a Lincoln MKX behind his Class C and asked Cass how ours towed!

On December 30th, Cass drove me around Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach to show me where she grew up! Here is the house on Fairway Lane that she grew up, where she burned the kitchen trying to make french fries...

We drove through the cemetary where her mother was buried...

.
.. where she went to
school...
... and where her father had bought a place on Sawgrass!

We left for St. Augustine on Thursday, December 31st. It was a beautiful ride down Rt. A1A! We are staying at North Beach Resort. According to their brochure, it "is located on a barrier island, common along the Southeast Atlantic Coast. This unnamed island extends about 35 miles north to Mayport, at the mouth of the St. Johns River and 3.5 miles south to the St. Augustine Inlet, where the Matanzas and North Rivers join and open to the ocean. Both rivers are tidal saltwater and are part of the Intracoastal Waterway." This campground abuts the Intracoastal and we are just across the street from the ocean and about 4 miles from downtown St. Augustine.

It rained all day here so we took it as a day to watch "Julie and Julia"... great movie! Cosmo and Patrick took it as a down day too and slept with Cass on the couch! It's a rough life for two little dogs but I think it is fair to say that they have adapted very well to being travelin' pups!
